Hip-Hop

A high-energy class that uses the latest sounds in rap, R&B and pop music together with movements influenced by some of today’s hottest video choreographers. Hip hop encompasses movement that has elements of poppin', locking, and breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. Hip hop is urban, it’s street, it’s diverse and forever changing.

We have beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes. Most classes are 45 minutes. All hip-hop classes are in the Spring Showcase.

What to wear: T-shirt, black pants or shorts, hip-hop sneakers or clean athletic shoes. No jewelry or bra tops. Hair must be up (pony tail, etc.).

Teens take a ballet class.

Teen Dance Mix

Beginner/Intermediate - For students 13 and up who want to try tap and jazz for the first time, or who have had some prior training but haven’t danced for a while.

The class will discover the fun of jazz dancing through fundamental dance movement, jazz technique, leaps/turns and a little funky style. We will also work on tap, which is a contagiously fun and energetic class that teaches the fundamentals of tap including basic sounds, terminology, and foot placement. After successfully accomplishing that, students will move on to combinations that encompass all of the above. This class will help students with rhythm, leg strength, and overall dance dexterity. We will also introduce some lyrical dancing. Lyrical dance is a blending of ballet and jazz techniques creating a perfect avenue of self-expression performed to contemporary music. The dancers will gain fluidity of movement, grace, control, individual expression, and self-confidence. If you like listening to ballads and soulful music, you will like lyrical!

Try something new and have some fun at the same time! This class will be in the Spring Showcase.

What to wear: Solid or black leotard, optional tight-fitting solid colored camisole, black shorts or pants, jazz shoes, tap shoes.
